EDF Energy is one of the largest energy companies in the UK. We distribute electricity to 7.9 million customer homes and businesses through our networks and employ nearly 12,000 people. We generate enough electricity in our power stations to meet about 13% of the total UK demand.

We supply energy to 5.5 million customers nationally through our retail brand EDF Energy. During 2006 we were the largest electricity supplier in the UK to large industrial and commercial companies.

We own and manage the distribution networks covering London, the south east and east of England and operate coal- and gas-fired power stations which together provide the majority of the electricity we produce. In addition we operate private combined heat and power plants and windfarms. In addition, we are also among the largest private network operators in the UK, having long-term contracts with BAA's Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports, the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, the London Underground and Canary Wharf.
